Shikamaru would rather relax and look at the clouds, than expand any energy doing school work. His general desire is to make a good living and be able to retire, successful and happy with himself. Shikamaru's mother wanted the best for her son and pestered him constantly, which led him to be cynical of women and their supposed bossiness. His troubles with women would extend to many of the battles he faced, having to combat Tsuchi Kin, Temari and Tayuya. His testy relationship with Temari would extend over the years, with the two ninja becoming friends. Though Naruto would accuse the two of being something more than friends, both Shikamaru and Temari would deny such a relationship. Alongside his team Shikamaru participated in the Chuunin Exam. After the third test preliminaries and the final third test itself, he was the only one to be acknowledged as worthy Chuunin material. From this point on he was able to don the Chuunin flak jacket with honor. Though the mission to return Sasuke failed and Shikamaru felt horrible for the near deaths of his team, the words of Temari and his father helped him realize that if he stopped being a ninja, someone else would have to look out for his friends instead. This caused him to reevaluate his feelings and reaffirm his desire to become a better ninja. Over the next years Shikamaru would further develop his skills and be selected as a Chuunin Examiner when the exam returned to Konoha. Alongside Sand kunoichi Temari who acted as an advisor, they would begin preparations for the new exam. |

He's an alright Character. I would put him as the braniac of the Ninja...good IQ Level, and I like the Kage Mane No Jutsu....I hope he becomes Jounin soon... |

Gambare Shikamaru! <_< First of all he is a genius with an IQ of around 200 points, which makes him a feared mind to deal with and there is very little stuff that could challenge his intelligence. IMO Shikamaru's constant challenge is to use his mind power in a way it balances with his strenght and speed. Shikamaru after being a genius and master strategist, he is a natural leader. The aftermath of his first chuunin mission as leader gave him a maturity level that most of his peers haven't experienced yet (Naruto is light years beyond Shikamaru's maturity level). The chuunin exams seem way more difficult now that he has become an examiner... the only chance the candidates have to copy now is when Shikamaru is sleeping. For me the best fights of the Narutoverse are those who involve intelligence over brawn, thus making Shikamaru one of my top 5 characters. |

Shikamaru is really one of the better defined characters of the Naruto universe. Along with Neji, he's probably the most complete character out of the genin group not on Team 7. His super-tactical fighting method really plays to the series strengths, and has made for some excellent encounters, especially as Shikamaru is really the only character to defeat other intellectual opponents (Temari and Tayuya). Also, his internal monologue when he decides to stop the pursuiing sound ninja in during Orochimaru's attack was just brilliant. Absolute mediocrity is a great crowning ambition. |

Note: most if not all of his major opponents were female (Kin, Tayuya, Temari) He is my favorite of the rookie nine and as said, the most developed. I think Kage nui was a bad idea because it isnt as strategic as the rest of his attacks. |

Great character, highly developed and very strategic. One of the reasons I love Naruto is because they use strategy in their battles and Shikamaru is a prime example of that. |

A definite genius. His intelligence has helped many times. At times, he may be lazy, but when he promises to do something, he definitely won't let you down. First to become chuunin of the ex-genin, including Team Gai. If only he would be a little more stronger in some areas, and not lazy, he definitely could be one of the strongest ninjas in the village. If it wasn't for him, Neji, Chouji, Kiba, and Naruto probably would've died soon. |

He became chuunin at the age of 12 which is excellent compared to the others (some of them might've become chuunin at the same age if they took the test in the same year). Smart and brave, a good representative of the Leaf. I would love to see him in the chuunin exams stopping a fight with his Kage Mane No jutsu. Imagine Hanabi charging at Moegi with her gentle fist while Moegi is almost dead and out of the blue Shikamaru stops her with Kage Mane. |

Shikamaru was the first ninja to become a chunnin out of the rookie 9 and he showed why he was chosen when he was incharge of a mission to get Sasuke back to Konoha and almost succeded, remember he only had 4 genin and Sasuke had the Sound 4(who beat 2 jounins) that mission showed me why he isa great leader <_< |

The Sound 4 used Curse Seal 2 on the jounin and there were four of them. Shikamaru didn't help them in the actual fights, but while they were traveling, that was a smart thing to do, positioning everyone where it best fits them. |

Shimamaru is awesome. He's an excellent character to use to break away from all the cliche battles. He really needs to increase his stamina capacity, he runs out of chakra too quickly. <_< |

He's my 3rd favorite char, when he's in the show I know I'll have a good laugh and a good time straining my brain trying to following his strategy. I am a bit annoyed that Shika only gets to fight kunoichi. I think it's because since he's not overpowering and blood thirsty, Kishimoto uses him as a soft touch so the girls don't get beat up/bloody/killed by a guy and maybe he wouldn't fare as well against the more powerful guys. Still, it's an amusing running joke. |

I've found a new respect for Shikamaru for reasons even I am not even sure of... Maybe its the lack of a sense of urgency that I notice, maybe its the shadow skills, I am not really sure, but is awesome either way. |

Shikamaru has that aura of simpleness that says "I'm lazy and I'm a genius. Do I care?" His intelligence is blinding, especially when he performs his strategies. He may not be the most combat-capable ninja out there, but he can hold his own. |
