Announcement Part 1

The announcer stood watching the first round with a look of shock and disbelief at what had just happened. Her pink eyes stared off, in awe at what had just happened and simply just couldn't believe it. Her long flowing pink hair danced with the cool breeze that that lightly blew across the arena filled with booing fans, angered over what had happened in the first match. The judges split second decision at the last second ended the match before it could even begin, and the random upset victory for Kaien Katsurou only angered the crowd more and more by the second. They paid good money for their tickets to see a fight only to end up with no fight at all. Not even bell was rang to signal a start of a fight. But, instead it was a win by default due to the most stupidest of actions that somebody could have done.

Then at that moment a person approached her. This person was a tournament official and was one of many staff that was making sure this tournament ran and performed smoothly without any form of delay or problems. Whispering in her ear, her eyes widened in shock at the news that she heard and just couldn't believe the reason why Chi Long was removed from the tournament, but deep down she could only face palm at how a mistake like this could have been prevented had they just followed the rules, prior to registering. Now with this information in mind it was now her task and duty to let the crowd know what was going on to ensure that they were not left in the dark over what had just happened.

"Chi Long has been disqualified from the tournament due failure to follow tournament protocol. The one that signed him up for the tournament was registered under more then one name, and false identities and alias are strictly prohibited by tournament rules. Our goal is to ensure safety of the of those attending the tournament, and for that Chi Long has been disqualified. Were sorry for any inconvenience" announced the pink haired girl.

"Joi, would you say it is time to announce the next match?" asked a fellow announcer whom was positioned next to her.

"Oh yeah! I forgot" she smiled the Kanpekisa brightly with a joyful and innocent blush.

"Okay then without further ado, I will announce the names of the next match up for the tournament. So, lets give a warming applause for Soyokaze Tsubomi
and Bura Yon Kasen!" shouted the cheerful announcer as she awaited patiently for both Soyokaze as well as Bura to enter the arena. With the crowd now roaring with delight, Joi, along with her fellow announcer looked forward for a good match.

Soyokaze Tsubomi

Soyo heard her name over the intercom as the tournament ring-hand announced the next two participants, signaling their entrance. "Well, here it goes," was her response as she made her way from the holding box out into the arena.

Soyo walked nonchalantly and calmly into the ring, trying her hardest to focus on the arena, learning and memorizing the layouts as well as planning strategies, attempting not to let the crowd and its insanely loud cheering distract her or sap away her attention. Okay, be prepared, you don't know anything about this person or their techniques. Dammit, this arena is bone dry. I hope this guy isn't a Katon user... That means that I'll have to use some chakra to make water, if need be. Maybe they'll be a taijutsu user that I can contend with, that way I wouldn't have to tire myself out using ninjutsu.

Her thoughts began to pick up more and more speed as she began trying to think of a strategy to cover every angle. She slowly began losing her cool as she realized she knew nothing about this person; this caused her to assume and focus all of her attention on the idea that they were her exact counter, and that she would have little if any chance to win this. Now, normally Soyo is a calm and relatively easy going person, but the fact that she didn't even know the gender of her opponent, much less their abilities shook her nerves. Her heartbeat raced, her breathing matched the speed of her thoughts, her eyes dashed every direction focusing on one thing after another.

Get yourself under control, you're a Jounin for goodness sake, you've been in uncontrolled life or death situations before. This is a tournament, people are here and they'll stop it before you're killed. Besides, maybe this person is exactly your opposite. Maybe I'm their perfect counter. Breathe. Just relax and breathe. Soyo closed her eyes and tried her hardest to silence her mind and the outside distractions. She was calm now. With her new sense of tranquility she opened her eyes and stared at the holding area, awaiting her opponent to walk out and take their place in the arena with her.

Bura leapt up from the seats as soon as he heard his name announced. Standing up straight and stretching his arms, he began to crack his neck. His friends and team-mates sat in the same area and came to cheer him on. Horyo looked uneasy as he suggested in a pout: "You should be careful. All the information about the other people have been off-limits and you don't know much about your opponents. You know that an animal user can-"

"I know." He interrupted Horyo, while he glared towards the arena.

"Plus you should be more careful, being too arrogant-"

"I know." He repeated himself with a colder voice.

"We...just don't want you to get-" Horyo was again interrupted, but this time by the third member of the group. Kimura shot into the conversation with a roaring shout. "You better not lose to that!!" She spouted while pointing to the woman in the field. "Pfft, the volume of her gray hair, where does she think she is, some beauty pageant?! If you do lose to her, I will NEVER forgive you!!" A hint of envy was flagrantly obvious in her exclamations. Still, Bura understood that they both wished the best for him. It was odd though; normally, regardless of their warnings and suggestions, he would feel comfortable when entering a battle, feeling that the difficulties he might encounter would diminish as he planned a method to overcome them.

However, Bura felt no such strong self-assurance today. He felt as though his victories, if any, would be slim; doubt was gripping at his chest and he inhaled a slow breath to ease his mind. I will win. He thought to himself. I will win. He thought again, with more aggression. Yet no matter how much he thought, he felt that small bit of doubt gnawing at the back of his mind.

"Bura..., no matter what happens, so long as you come out okay, you're still gonna be our leader." Horyo muttered. He's right. They have faced situations far beyond the scope of a mere tournament. So why am I worried? Is it because that pride exists as the cost here? Is it because losing means living with failure? What was the point of winning, recognition?.

"Besides, it's just a stupid contest, and that girl looks like she can stare in the mirror longer than she can throw a Shuriken." Kimura chimed in with her silly analogies.

I will win. Just because. He looked back to his team with steady eyes. An uneasy silence of a few seconds lingered in the air as everyone was left to their thoughts, their doubts, and their hopes. That feeling of doubt that nagged at him, tugged at his imagination, was still there, hovering around his mind. Then, his even lips curved into his usual crooked smile. He stood on the rails of the box, then leapt onto the field, ready to face whomever should come his way...

Bura (Yon) Kasen
As he fell from above, he added a trace amount of chakra to his feet to cushion his landing. He met the ground, thudding it softly, causing the dust and dirt to fly in small puffs. He stood up and stared at his opponent and observed her features: She is pretty. Her hair is not long enough to be used as a weapon, but too short to slow her down. Still if I need to, I can grab it. He gazed up and down and tried to note any visible weaponry and saw none, yet her flak-jacket had scroll pouches, so he could not rule out hidden tools. If she doesn't have any visible weaponry, her choice of fighting may be Ninjutsu, but I can't determine what she specializes in with this initial analysis. The only information he possessed was that she came from the Cloud Village and she had a fit body. He dwarfed her by about half a foot - Which may mean she is a fast or agile, that may be important for later, but his first move will not miss.

He also used the bits of time he had to observe the surroundings. Dirt and sand. Dirt and sand. My Fuuton techniques may help here..., but if she knows Fuuton, or even Doton, she has a clear advantage. He began to devise conjectures and make quick measurements. Okay, I'll start this thing.

Keeping his crooked smile, he made a sneering sound, laughing a bit. Bura then relaxed his pose and left his hands by his sides. He gave her one more look before saying to her, "You should give up. It will save us a lot of trouble later on. I don't want to mar your groomed little body, and I don't want to tire myself out for later." And so he lay down his first move. Heh, first move never misses

Soyokaze Tsubomi

Soyo continued looking at the holding area, awaiting her opponent to show themselves and make their way to the arena. As it turned out, she was staring in the wrong direction. To her surprise and immediate attention, a man suddenly burst from the upper portion of the holding area, landing with an impossibly soft thud, and stirring up a small cloud of dust. Immediately the young man flashed an intense look at her.

So it's a guy, huh? He's taller than me, so he may have the advantage in power. He also was able to soften the force of his landing using chakra and he's carrying some weapon, so it's likely he's versed in taijutsu. Then again, he doesn't have any scars or anything. So, either he doesn't use taijutsu often or he's really good at it. I can't rule out ninjutsu or genjutsu, though, so I have to be on my toes. She was already beginning to analyze every aspect of this young man's appearance, just as a Jounin should. Every thing was to be looked at and pondered over, no detail was too minuscule to ignore; his appearance, his clothing, his physique, even the way he walked was a potential clue that could unravel the mystery of what type of fighter this man was. Let's see, he's wearing a flak jacket, too, so he's likely hiding some weapons and equipment there. Look at his walk, he's very confident. Well, either he's very confident or he's really good at acting the part. Look at his eyes... Ha, they're going every which direction, I bet he's trying to analyze me just as much as I'm trying to analyze him.

Soyo's nerves were getting to her again as she realized the fight would soon begin. Her opponent set his foot on the first step. Relax. He made his ascent to the second step. Focus. He was on the third step. Breathe. He had fully climbed the steps and was now inside the arena. With her.

Okay, this guy is even bigger up close, Soyo thought as she was able to fully drink in her opponent's figure. She was somewhat unnerved by the size difference, as well as the general atmosphere. With my luck he's going to use Katon in this dry arena. Oh well, this place as plumbing. If need by I can rely on him to find me some water. The parts before the fight are the worst, so don't worry. Just be polite before hand, not during the fight. She smiled at him as he took his stand in the ring directly opposite of her.

"You should give up. It will save us a lot of trouble later on. I don't want to mar your groomed little body, and I don't want to tire myself out for later," were the first words said, let out by the young man who was now sporting a cocky smirk.

Soyo was taken back by this and was honestly disappointed. Well, it looks like I got a cocky he-man who's full of himself. Good, that'll work to my advantage. Still, be polite, it could throw 'em off. "I appreciate your concern for me, but where's the fun in that, right? I don't want my opponent to worry about messing up my 'groomed little body', so don't let that hold you back. My name is Soyo Tsubomi, by the way," was Soyo's response, who was beaming back at the man with a friendly smile, as if oblivious to the fact that they were about to try and kill each other for the entertainment of others. Now I just wait for him to make the first move. When you wait for it, the first move never hits.

"I appreciate your concern for me, but where's the fun in that, right? I don't want my opponent to worry about messing up my 'groomed little body', so don't let that hold you back. My name is Soyo Tsubomi, by the way."

He felt unsure if he could detect her motives because she humored his statement with a clever one of her own, and that she kept up her faux smile. Hmm, she's either very naive, or she's trying to mask her thoughts. Good, she's either an idiot, or she's a liar. In either case, I cannot trust anything she says or does. Bura had long since forgotten about the feeling of doubt he withheld before, since his attention remained locked onto her. He smirked his wry smirk, and shifted his feet. Small traces of dust clouds rose as his sandals scratched against the floor. So, she's just about fifteen feet away, I think... He remained stationary.

Five Seconds passed.

Bura did not act, he intended to wait for her movements.

Five more seconds passed and it seemed to him that the crowd became a bit restless.

No, forget them, focus! Okay-okay, If she's not moving, then she'll be waiting for me. My only move now is to bait. By the third second, I will move. Narrowing his eyes, he shifted his feet more. Both of his hands whipped down his sides: the right hand reached for his shuriken pack; the left clutched at two smoke-bombs strung onto his flak-jacket. One second. He detached two smoke-bombs from the four-pack cluster, and withdrew three shuriken. Tossing one bomb ahead of him and one to his right he masked about eight-feet with smoke. Two seconds. The smoke produced an odd nauseating odor, and slimy feel. He had a plan with this oily smoke-bomb, but it would be risky to pull off. First thing's first, gotta draw her in somehow. Bura then launched two shuriken out, and heaved himself to the side to fire the third one. If his calculations were correct, he would have been at a 45 degree angle to her now, give or take several degree - So unless she moved in response, which I'd expect her to, two shuriken would be flying to her first, while the third one would hit her side. Three seconds.

Bura stopped for a moment to gather his thoughts: Damnit, I took too long. I'm sure she noticed the direction of my feet and my constant shifting. But still, this is just the beginning. Preparing for whatever might come his way, he pulled out a kunai and crouched so that his legs would be ready to spring. The smoke-bombs were effective, but he knew that they would dissipate sooner than the regular ones, and while waiting in this smoke, he was at a disadvantage: not only was his vision blocked, but the odor masked most scents with its putrid smell, and some of the slick properties of the smoke began to cling to his clothing and skin. Now I definitely gotta be careful.

OOC: I know Kishimoto did it already, but I wanted to try :D

Soyo Tsubomi

Expecting another cocky reply or a long and drawn out elaboration of himself, Soyo was a little surprised by the man's silence and intense stare. Okay, so you didn't get any reaction, maybe he's not as cocky as you think. Coulda been a trap to get you to label him as overconfident. That's dangerous. Don't label him, it's hard to think of your opponent as anything different when you've already labeled him. Just wait, after he makes his move you'll have much more data to go on.

Though in reality only five seconds had passed, Soyo felt like they had been standing there for at least an hour staring each other down. Don't get impatient, he's trying to let you make the first move. You can wait longer, you have to wait longer. He's crazy if he thinks I'm going to make the first move. Just stand here completely relaxed. Heaven forbid he realizes how nervous I am right now.

The next five seconds were filled with the same stare down, and by now the crowd was getting a bit angry and impatient. Soyo was completely oblivious to their cries, insults, and whatever else they threw out in hopes of getting the two to make their move. On the contrary Soyo could here only her thoughts and her heartbeat, she could see only her opponent and the arena she was in, she could feel only the thudding in her chest and the sweat forming on her hands. She was completely in battle mode, almost oblivious to the fact that they were in a controlled tournament setting.

Suddenly her attention was grabbed as her opponent narrowed his eyes. Success! He's about to make his move. Her thought was confirmed when he began shuffling his feet, signaling he was about to move. Here it comes! Instantly the man's arms moved into action. His right reached into his shuriken pouch while his left reached into the pockets of his flak jacket. Okay, one in the shuriken holster, that means projectiles. It's in his right hand, so my best bet is to get dashing to his left. Be careful of what's in his left hand, it could be anything. She took off running to her own right side, making sure to circle her opponent so as to keep the 15-ought foot distance constant. Get ready for what he throws, she thought while simultaneously reaching her right hand into her ninja pouch and clutching a kunai.

Two areas of smoke appeared, one in front and the other to the right of him, after the man released what was in his left hand. Smoke bombs? What's he planning? At any rate, be careful, if he jumps in one of the clusters I won't be able to see where his hands go. That means be on your guard for ninjutsu-here they come! She noticed two shuriken flying towards her that she proceeded to deflect using her kunai. As soon as they were blocked she slid back a meter or two and reached into her flack jacket. Just then a third shuriken flew straight past her, missing her side by a few feet. He doesn't know where I am! This is great, now to mount the counter offensive!

She was excited by the opportunity she was given. She withdrew three smoke bombs from her jacket; one was thrown directly in front of her while she threw the other two in the same exact spots as her opponent threw his. Okay, this will mask me while those other two insure that his smoke won't dissipate before I can pull this off. With any luck he'll chalk it up to a Chuunin-mistake. Okay, here it goes. Suiton- Komakai Mizu Dedoko Soyo, completely masked by the smoke, began to make a few hand seals, then threw up a small amount of water in front of her. She then made another few hand seals and immediately converted the water into two Mizu Bunshin. With a little more concentration she touched each one and infused her special chakra into them. All the preparations are complete, if this succeeds I'll be able to keep track of him and he won't know how.

She sent her two Mizu Bunshin forward, one to each smoke cloud, to combat her opponent. She didn't expect them to beat him, but there's no way he could know that they were merely clones, so with any luck he'd reveal a jutsu before they were destroyed. This, of course, was at the cost of chakra, a few smoke bombs, and information about her own repertoire and strengths, but in the end she figured it would be worth it. She sat back and focused, trying to sense her chakra using her Chakra Hakkaku no Jutsu and awaiting her moment to strike. I'm in a good position here.

Bura Kasen
The sizzling from the release of condensed-gas ended soon after it began.

Blinded by the mass of conglomerate oily smoke, he waited for the heavy smoke to waver and sink. Thinking forward to plan his best strategy, Bura heard the two sharp clangs of impacting metals. Although four of his five senses suffered various impediments, he became reliant on hearing and figured she most likely repelled his initial shuriken strike. He then waited for a third clang, or even a scream. He heard nothing. I missed- but before he could continue, his ears detected another set of sounds: a faint sliding and another sizzling sound.

That sound..., wait, why hasn't my smoke dispersed? He remembered that his smoke-bombs would evanesce faster than regular ones. He guessed that she somehow kept his smoke trick up, but he could not dissect the exact strategy. I need more detail. He thought and sprung himself to his left. Bura planned to throw only two smoke-bombs in specific directions so he might have two exits if necessary: His left and his back. Given the conditions in which he was trapped, his strategy would be too risky.

As he dashed ten feet or so from the cloud of smoke, he saw that it had not only remained standing, but also plumed out more. Looking over in the direction he thought that girl might be, he saw another smokescreen, smaller than his. This is excellent. Pulling out of the area, he regained most of his senses, with the exception of touch. His spiked hair slightly unraveled and the clumps of hair on his head lost their stiff structure, while his clothes clung tightly to his body. Bura's skin gleamed in somewhat of a shiny substance. I can't use some of my techniques just yet, but maybe if I force her outta hiding... He performed a basic hand seal, Bunshin no Jutsu! A clone in similar appearance materialized; the only difference was his clone looked in far better condition, with his usual spruced-up hair. Essentially, it was he before entering the fight.

Only fifteen seconds to do this, maybe she won't notice the difference, or maybe she'll think it's a Shadow-Clone. While the clone ran closer to the smoke, Bura knelt down on one knee after performing quick hand-seals and gathered his Wind-Element Chakra. If I lie low, she might not be able to see me, especially when my clone rushes her. He concentrated on the amount of chakra being poured into his hands, and flattened them on each other, almost as if he were making a prayer. Some members from the audience giggled and determined that he must be a silly person to leave himself so vulnerable and in a praying position. Swirl, spin, swirl, spin, slowly. The wind chakra spun in his palms, and he could feel the force build up as both sides (of his hands) churned against each other. Right, three seconds down, twelve to go.

Soyo Tsubomi

Soyo at this point crouching on one knee, trying to concentrate in order to pinpoint the location of her chakra. Her two Mizu Bunshin were still intact as far as she could tell since it was concentrated in two areas. They should have entered the smoke by now... Just then she detected the sound of a third runner. Is he moving? Damn, he may have been suspicious of my smoke bombs and got out of there. He's stopped moving I think. Alright, he probably has a pretty good idea of where I am, but he still can't see me. I'm going to take advantage of this while I can.

Soyo cut her thumb with the kunai she was holding in her hand, allowing a few drops of blood to come out. She then created a few hand seals and placed her hand to the ground. Kuchiyose no Jutsu. Soyo summoned her partner Itten, an old porcupine about three feet in length. As soon as he appeared he noticed the smoke, which had started to dissipate to the point where he could see Soyo, who was about a foot away from him, relatively easily, and stifled his breathing and movements. He looked behind him at Soyo, who made a gesture for him to be quiet. She mouthed the words "one tap water, two taps wall, three taps reveal," Itten nodded, and then proceeded to focus his chakra and head underground. I probably only have a few seconds with this screen at best. Time to make sure I don't get murdered when I get out of here.

Her two Mizu Bunshin had finished searching through the puffs of smoking that were now starting to dissipate. Confirming their thought that the target had moved, they ran back out of the puffs and saw their opponent kneeling, apparently gathering chakra. They also saw another person running towards the puff of smoke holding Soyo. A Bunshin? But which one is the clone? The Mizu Bunshin closest to the one running withdrew two shuriken from her pouch and tossed them at him while the Mizu Bunshin closest to the one kneeling charged at him. He's apparently concentrating, possibly preparing a ninjutsu. I can't let him get it off." When the clone was within ten feet of her target, she reached into her pouch with her right hand while simultaneously executing a sliding kick towards the side of her target, aiming for his ribs.

By the time the Mizu Bunshin had started their assault, the smoke bombs had almost entirely cleared. Soyo was left crouching to see the current position of everybody on the field. Three of me and two of him! He's outnumbered even if that's a solid clone! Seeing that one of her Mizu Bunshin was preparing to throw some shuriken at the opponent that was charging at her, she decided to give back up to the clone who was charging at the kneeling one. He's apparently concentrating, so my best bet is to go after that one. If it's solid, that one is the one is probably preparing a jutsu. If it isn't solid, the one I'm dodging can get me from behind. I have a clone watching that one though, so I should be safe.

She quickly thought up her strategy and ran straight at the Bura that was headed towards her. When she got within 8 feet of him she jumped in the air, aiming to clear him and continue on to the kneeling one. Hope he's not anti-areal!

As soon as Soyo had made her moved, the crowd up above went from childish laughing to low hushes. Things were becoming serious, very serious. Horyo and Kimura looked down with unease.

Bura Kasen

The gaseous smoke began to clear up, becoming less and less visible. As soon as it began clearing though, two forms sprinted from the clouds. As they stopped, he realized that she analyzed everything. So that smoke-guise was a trick, she made one Clone and charged into the screen He figured while still charging his attack. The swirling became more violent, so he concentrated on keeping them balanced. Though decent, chakra control was definitely not his forte, but he gained another four seconds.

One form of his opponent began tossing shuriken at his clone, while the other charged towards him. He had three five seconds left, and by the time she would reach him, the attack would be a success. That plan was solid and fool-proof; however he noticed that the smoke cloud covering her initial position had cleared and that another form of her was there. His eyes widiened in surprise, as he needed to think of a new plan - fast. The shuriken produced by his opponent had pierced into his clone, who burst in a cloud if expended chakra.

The third form of his opponent had already sent herself flying towards him. The numbers worsened for him, and he had no way to determine which was real; in addition to this, his vision's angle and distance did not witness any trace of the digging made by the summoning, Itten. But before he could even devise a counter-measure, one figure had charged towards him, preparing to strike him somewhere on his torso. As she grew closer, he was finishing up the last parts of controlling his chakra. The form of Soyo had launched her kick towards his lower-chest. The technique was ready! unfortunately, he was unable to execute it the way he wished, so he went with the alternative. He brought all of the wind chakra into one hand, his right.

As she landed her kick, he moved his hand to cushion the blow. His outer forearm took the strike, while his hand extracted something. His ribcage had survived and he was sent back a meter, but not before dropping an explosive tag, into which he infused chakra. His right hand still withheld the technique, and as he slid back. The tag was slightly covered in the oils that dampened his clothing. As soon as he stopped sliding, Bura angled and pushed his right hand into the ground, and released the blow. Aerial Palm Technique! The impact of the strike sent him backwards and flying. He flew about forty-feet, before rolling around and stopping. Standing up, Bura drew his sword and witnessed the explosion. The area I knelt it had some residue of that mixture, if anything that should have increased the speed of the tag. He thought before getting into another combative stance. In his right hand, he held the Kodachi blade, which reached about 21 inches, complementing his arm-length; in his left hand, he drew two shuriken, ready to fire.

Soyo Tsubomi

As soon as Soyo jumped over the Bura that was charging her, the appropriate Mizu Bunshin had launched her two shuriken at the man, which went through him and caused the now apparent clone to poof. Still in the air, Soyo had only enough time to realize that it was a a regular clone before catching the movements of her opponent.

He seemed to have noticed the oncoming attack of her clone, but he decided to continue concentrating instead of moving out of the way. This caused Soyo to think the jutsu was pretty powerful. He sacrificed dodging for charge up time. I have to be incredibly careful if it's that important to him. Just then her clone connected her kick into Bura's arm, which was quick enough to defend his ribcage. He slid back about a meter from the force, but using a sleight of hand he was able to drop some object to the ground.

The real Soyo was able to see the object from her perspective and reacted accordingly as she came down to from the air. s***! That's an explosive note! That clone won't be able to get out of there, so there goes my elemental affinity. I'm heading right for it, too, even at this distance it's dangerous! I hope Itten can hear this in time. With that she began to form a few hand seals as she landed, hoping that Bura would see her. She hit the ground and stomped twice on the ground while simultaneously watching as Bura pointed his hand at the ground, releasing his jutsu, and sending himself flying back. He's clever using a Fuuton jutsu to get himself away from the blast in time. Here it comes!

As soon as the note detonated two large pillars of earth sprang up in front of Soyo, taking the brunt of the force of the explosion. The Mizu Bunshin that rushed Bura was caught in the explosion and reverted to water, which, thanks to the explosive note, was splashed around the arena. With any luck Soyo hoped some of the water would land on Bura. The other Mizu Bunshin followed suit and rushed behind the real Soyo and the barrier created by Itten. When the explosion had finished the makeshift wall had mostly crumbled; enough of it was still standing that allowed both Soyo and her Mizu Bunshin to hide behind it by kneeling. Soyo was a little damaged by the explosion still, but it wasn't anything too bad, just a few scrapes and a bit of shell shock.

She took the moment to assess the situation. Alright, if this guy has any ability in perception he knows that I can use Suiton and create clones. He also hopefully believes I can use Doton. That explosion was a little too wide and quick for an ordinary explosive note, though... The smoke bombs! I knew they weren't ordinary smoke bombs; they smelled funny, dispelled quickly, and his hair was matted down while his clone's was still spiky. They must be oil infused smoke bombs meant to act as a combustible material. Dammit, that means getting my chakra on him through water would be useless, the oil wouldn't allow it to sink in. This means he's flammable, though! She devised a quick plan that she shared with her clone, and dashed out from behind the barrier.

He might be able to determine which one is the real me and which is the clone by my scratches, but they aren't that noticeable, so maybe I'll get lucky. Soyo had just realized how often she thought about luck during this fight, and probably would have giggled if she wasn't in a combat situation. She was rushing to the right in a circular motion as her clone was running to the left in the same motion. I need to bait him into my clone. With that, she reached into her pouch and withdrew a kunai wrapped with an explosive note. She tossed it while still running with her circular motion. She deliberately threw it a bit in front of him, about three feet, so that he could dodge it by backing up in the direction of her clone, who had began to charge at Bura. As soon as it landed, she detonated it, hoping he'd jump back straight into her clone's arms, who was awaiting him with a mouth ember.

Staring at the explosion from afar, Bura noted that one form of Soyo was consumed by the blast and disintegrated into water. As the other form of his opponent flew towards the site of the blast, two pillars came up which shielded her. Suiton...and Doton? He considered for a moment. Her Suiton gives her an advantage over my Katon, while her Doton may shield her like it did just now. Not good.. He began to figure that she had the upper hand in this battle and under normal circumstances there would be a five percent chance he would win. However, the smoke bombs which she laid out to keep the smokescreen up earlier, helped by dispersing the oils droplets contained in the clouds across a wide area.

Then Bura computed everything he knows about her current condition. There were three forms, and I destroyed one. If that rock pillar was used to protect the girl I saw in the air, she must be the real one. Unfortunately now she's hiding behind the remnants. The one in the air didn't perform any techniques, so ost likely, the other clone used the technique to defend her, and if I destroy that one, we'll be even again. Unfortunately, Bura never realized the danger that lurked below; Soyo was at a clear advantage due to her resources and surprises, while Bura had one trump card. He figured that close-combat would be too risky if she pulled something out of her sleeves. He still did not know the full capabilities of her techniques and what she specialized in, though it seemed to be direct-combat ninjutsu.

In a moment's notice, after Bura had finished some of his thoughts, he saw both forms of his opponent rushing from behind the rocks. He saw that both of them ran towards either side of him, and hypothesized that they would perform some kind of tram maneuver but considering they are rushing him, they have to be close enough to pull it off; this means that he can strike them both in one shot. Bura charged up a fair portion of his Fire Chakra, before noticing the explosiev note landing in front of him. Taken by surprise, Bura had no time to dodge, so brought up his arms and shielded himself. The explosion impacted him and inflicted a searing pain into his body as he was forced back tumbling and rolling. The blazing fire combusted when it contacted his skin and clothes, but rolling helped it subside.

He lay unmoving for a few seconds before struggling to his feet. His leg would not move and felt a numb sensation: it was heavy, and would not obey the orders his mind sent down. Is it broken? One of his eyes was closed, feeling very sensitive to the breezes that wavered in the arena. His vision blurred in random intervals and he staggered around, as if every breath was forcing him off balance. As soon as his vision steadied, he saw the blood streaming down his arms, and the deep scratches he got from the scratchy surface of the ground; some parts of his body encountered larger-than-usual sharp pebbles which left gash-wounds. Bura felt like throwing up as he coughed up some spatters of blood. By now, what parts of his clothes not stained by the deep sanguine fluid had been torn or burnt off. He was a serious mess. As painful as the damage was in areas where he felt it, his pride was hurt the most. He had failed in front of his whole team and village during the first event.

The blow took much out of him and even if he did by some miracle win, he would be in no condition for another fight. Well, this is probably the end, but I'm not going down until she does. His jumbled thoughts became clearer as his anger rose. Small creases of stress-lines formed on hi face which became contorted the more he realized that he had lost the tournament. Bitter contempt coursed through his mind and diverted all of his energies into paying her back for the blow. He molded his fire chakra again, and performed the basic handseals. Then Bura reared his end up and held his breath.

Ibuki no Hinote!
Breath of fire!

As soon as he opened his mouth, a bright orange flame burst out. He fueled extra chakra into this attack, causing it to expand and whip all around. The flames spread around, and some lasting blazes ignited on the ground where the oil lay. Bura then moved his head back into position and continued spewing large flames. He had no control over the blaze, but so long as he kept feeding it with chakra, it would eventually spread farther and may even reach her. Now fire was all around, and because the oils on his body had mostly been burnt up, there was nothing that led the fire back to him directly, and he projected the flame as far as he could as to not let the fire encompass him. Bura stopped and knelt down, before sucking in some air; beads of sweat trailed down his face before mixing with some of the dried blood. His lungs felt baked and he felt breathless. His eyes became unfocused and he blindly reached for his sword, but not before falling to the ground. Breathing heavily, and lost in his own thoughts, Bura lay exhausted and wounded.

Soyo Tsubomi

Soyo had just detonated an explosive note tied to the kunai that she tossed at her opponent, just as she planned. However, things turned out rather different than what she had intended them to; instead of jumping back into the hands of Soyo's Mizu Bunshin, Bura, whether it was due to being caught off guard or due to some other circumstance, decided to block the blast rather than dodge it. At first Soyo was delighted by this. That works, too! He should have a decent amount of damage on 'em after that.

Bura, taking the large brunt, but not all, of the concussive force of the explosion went rolling back quite a distance. The explosion also ignited the bits of oil still clinging to his body, adding fire to the mix as well, though this was lessened considerably by the rolling. Soyo watched as he stopped rolling. She and her clone were both prepared to toss a couple of shuriken at him if he got back up. He's down! I've won this. With that, she breathed a sigh of relief and relaxed her guard, not completely, but a bit. Then, to her surprise and slight annoyance, Bura began moving again. What the hell does it take to get this guy to stay down? He took the brunt of an explosive note and was lit on fire! He's determined if nothing else.

She was fully able to drink in Bura's condition, seeing the full extent of the success of the plan that didn't follow completely through. One of Bura's legs looked limp, emphasized by Bura putting most of his weight on the other one, he was scratched up and bleeding from various parts of his body, his clothes were singed in places and torn in others, one of his eyes was shut, he was breathing heavily and was swaying a bit as if he couldn't completely gain his balance, he even spat up some blood; it was a sad sight. Soyo felt kind of bad for doing what she did. If it were a battle field or if this was a mission, she wouldn't give a second thought and would have already placed the shuriken in her hand into her opponent's body, but this wasn't a mission; it wasn't a battlefield or life or death situation, it was completely controlled and was just for entertainment. I didn't want it go this far, is what she wanted to say to the guy, but all she could do was think it. He put up a great fight, I can't believe it came this far. I really didn't even need to win...

She resolved to tell him that he put up a great fight, and began to speak when she noticed Bura's face. It was one of complete and total anger. The lines on his face from the furious glare that Bura was giving her accented the extreme fury that everybody could tell he was feeling. This added to Soyo's guilty feelings. After all, she had entered the tournament on a whim; her friends goaded her into it, she had no real purpose. If she won, so what? It wasn't the most important thing to her. It could have been the most important thing to her opponent, however, and she took it away from him. He had friends watching, and possibly even fellow shinobi who now had something to torture him with. She looked down at the ground in an almost shame. She couldn't bare to look at Bura and his furious glare. The best she could do was to look past his shoulder.

Suddenly he began to form hand seals, much to Soyo's surprise. What?! I thought he was done? Is he bluffing? Instinctively she got into a combat stance, fearing what was coming while her Mizu Bunshin dashed and lunged itself at Bura, hoping to either stop him from using this jutsu or to take the force of it. Bura lifted his head up and took a deep breath. Soyo caught a glimpse of furious orange light coming from his mouth. Katon?! I need water now! While Bura released wild and widespread flames from his mouth that instantly caused Soyo's Mizu Bunshin to revert back to water, Soyo stomped on the ground, signaling to Itten that she needed water while simultaneously making hand seals. Almost instantly large bits and pieces of the arena, those soaked by the oily smoke bombs, were lit up by the fire while simultaneously a large gusher of water shooting up about 15 feet high burst from in front of Soyo, who had just finished creating her hand seals.

Mizu Bouei Kangoku no Jutsu!

She took a deep breath while the water formed a protective sphere around her. Unfortunately this didn't happen as quick as she'd of liked it to, as her left shin and left arm were singed by the flames. The Suiton jutsu extinguished the flames in Soyo's immediate vicinity while the still flowing gusher acted as a rain of sorts that aided in subduing the other flames. Even in the end he refused to lose to me, huh? He certainly was a great opponent, even if he was a bit too cocky. I can wait safely in here for another 20 seconds or so, but that should be plenty of time for this geyser to put out the flames.

And so she stood protected in her prison of water, watching the flaming parts of the arena subside and give up. When all of the flames were either extinguished or too small to cause problems, she released her jutsu and gasped for air. When she caught her breath she looked at Bura, who was lying on the ground exhausted and gasping for air.

Luck pounded into her head as the only thing she could think of. It was all luck. "If it means anything to you, I'm glad you were my opponent."

With that sentence, she looked over to one of the ring-hands, the female with long, flowing pink hair to be specific, and signaled her to get closer as she had gotten out of the way and seemed quite far from the arena (a smart move on her part, otherwise the flames could have jumped to her hair, a tragic loss for everybody). "I think you should call it, I really don't want to hurt him anymore, and I really hope he's as he looks; I don't need him to throw another technique at me."

Announcement Part 2

"Bura is unable to continue the match. The victory of the match goes Soyo Tsubomi!" announced the male announcer sitting beside Joi upon hearing Soyo's suggestion.

In a stunning turn of events the match ended with Soyo taking the win after a very jaw dropping finish. Joi was in awe at the events and this match and general and couldn't believe just how exciting it was. In her mind she couldn't have asked for a better match for first actual fight of the tournament. Everything was just spectacular and she knew that both opponents gave it everything they had and in Joi's mind they were both winners in their own way. And they had no reason to be ashamed of themselves. But, sadly only one of them could win and it had to be Soyo to move on leaving Bura behind.

"In a stunning turn of events Soyo takes one home for the girls and becomes the winner of the second round of the tournament!" shouted Joi over the PA as the crowd erupted in applause and cheers.

"Shouldn't you send somebody to provide medical treatment to Bura? After all he is just laying there, possibly in a lot pain right now?" remarked her fellow announcer sarcastically, clearing taking a jab at her.

"Oh bite me Akazu! You have been sulking ever since you sat down and so whats the deal?" she asked curiously.

"Figures. How typical of you, to ask somebody to bite your body? Thanks for the offer, but I would prefer not to bite something that isn't a virgin. And second of all whats bothering me is none of your damn busi-" muttered Akazu as his sentence was cut short by an hard slap by Joi as her normally cheerful face turned bright red.

In her mind he was being a douche today but she wasn't going to let his buzz kill attitude ruin the day, as they still had plenty of exciting matches that were just ahead! But, Akazu did have a point in calling for medics to rush to Bura's aid. She figured the medics would have been already on the scene after the match. But, oh well the could have been slacking off or were enjoying the match from the infirmary.

"Could we get some medics out here?" shouted Joi over the PA, but no sooner after she finished the announcement a squad of medical ninja carrying a stretcher arrived at the scene and rushed to Bura's side. Looks like she didn't need to make the announcement after all huh?

But, with this match now over and with Soyo leaving the arena along with Bura. That left them with two more rounds left before the semi-finals could begin. And the next match was a match that the crowd anticipated and it was between his flaming highness Uchiha Raikenzu and the relatively unknown Takara Makinaru. Which was Joi had a feeling was going to be just as a good of a match as the previous one.

"Are you all ready for the next match!" shouted Joi with a great deal of enthusiasm which got the crowd going wild. "Without further ado may I announce the next round match between Uchiha Raikenzu!" but no sooner after she mentioned that Uchiha's name the crowd immediately went off and starting booing and shouting vulgarities. Phrases such as 'That son bitch' or 'Uchiha piece of s***', and even the simple 'that ******* loser' where among many of insults that were thrown about.

"Eh... and his challenger Takara Makinaru!" stuttered Joi as she felt uneasy after hearing all the booing and insults thrown around. She wasn't expecting this much hostility towards a contender, and she feared that a riot would break out at any minute. And apparently the crowd was looking forward to seeing Raikenzu getting his ass kicked or killed. But, sadly no sooner after she made the announcement she received a note from a tournament official with regards to Raikenzu.

"I'm am dropping from the tournament in order to train to achieve the next level of Sharingan by training for the next two months. And besides I killed Chi Long because he tried to ask me directions to bathroom while meditating so I yeah I'm dropping.

~Konoha's Red Flame, Uchiha Raikenzu"

Her face turned to shock upon reading this. She never would have thought another applicant would have dropped. Let alone kill a disqualified person off for no apparent reason. This was just so unheard of, that words could not describe what had just happened.

"Typical douchebaggary from the legendary Uchihatard" wisecracked Akazu as prepared to announce the grim news to the crowd. "Raikenzu is being a douche and decided to drop from the tournament to go train again, so the winner is Takara Makinaru" spoke Akazu in a very rushed tone of voice. He just wanted to get to get to the next round and to get the semi finals going. But, no sooner after he made the news the crowd started to get very angry to the point that several fights broke out in bleachers forcing security to take action. "God damn you Raikenzu" sighed Akazu as he slid back into his seat and made one very dramatic face palm.

"Well then with this match over lets move on to the last match before the semi-finals. Lets give a warm round of applause for both Satoriku Nori and Shogo Haruhana!" shouted Joi hoping she could get the crowd happy again after hearing that bit of bad news with regards to Raikenzu. Hope was all she had now, she believed strongly that these two participants could give the crowd the excitement they craved. But, the only question though was could they follow Soyo and Bura's match with the same energy they displayed? This was something that Joi eagerly awaited to see for herself.

Bura Kasen

As the announcers prepared the next match, medic squads were already rushing over the battered field to retrieve him. Their white robes bounced as they dashed along with their stretcher. Picking him up they assessed his condition and muttered about his status, until a consensus reached that he was dehydrated. As soon as they moved him onto the stretcher and headed back towards the infirmary room, a member of the audience trailed after.

Inside the infirmary, they began treating his wounds and applying their healing chakra. Horyo came in and moved through the packed room of medics before reaching Bura, who was barely conscious, flushed, and covered in injuries. "I'm his team-mate and also a Medical Ninja, please let me treat him as I already know most of his medical history and how to circumvent preexisting problems."

Horyo drew out a syringe with a yellow-liquid and demanded the other Medics give him space. "Thank you, I'm going to be applying a specialized serum of antihistamine that will stop his body from overreacting to any dust or pathogen he might of picked up in the fight. He's highly allergic and susceptible to such."

Horyo injected the serum and continued to heal Bura's injuries and declared to the others standing around "He's dehydrating because of the loss of blood and overexertion, especially in a dry and heated area; get me water and three cc of..." And so they treated his condition and, for the most part, it returned to a stable state. As soon as he woke up, Bura recognized Horyo, but there was a deep moment of silence before them.

"She was an older, more experienced Jounin and had a lot more advantages than you-" Horyo began.
"No excuses. I lost the match and failed." Bura rebutted in a pained voice.

"The people thought you were magnificent, even your opponent said something about you. Kimura was rather impressed with her abilities, as well as yours. 'It was one of the most amazing fights that I've seen' she said." Horyo shrugged and Bura looked away.

"And why did you use that last technique? You were in a tough spot, but that could have killed you."
"It didn't, though it probably would have felt more fitting." A sour edge resonated on his words.

"Well fine, you can loathe yourself and pity your loss, or you can accept your victories in the match and walk away knowing that not many people would have succeeded as much as you." Horyo's voice went down to a low whisper. Yet Bura did not respond.

"I'm going to get something to eat, you should keep drinking water to keep your liquids up." Horyo finished and stood up; as he stepped across the room towards the doorway he stopped and said, "You know, I'll always think you're cool." then exited the room. Hearing this, Bura felt a swelling inside, almost as if it became a knot. He had lost; it was a truth almost unacceptable, yet it was real. I'll win...next time, he thought as his eyelids slowly closed. Definitely.

End
