Well, believe it or not, more people watch anime than read manga. And quite frankly, I don't blame them. I'd probably do the same if I didn't like keeping up with the story. And there's really nothing to argue about. He has been portrayed as the one in command during past episodes [or at the very least, of a higher authority than the other members], so........yeah. His position is obvious to even those who don't read the manga. |

The only thing we know about the leader is a hologram with a deep voice and crazy eyes. I don't see how that translates into being this random guy with orange hair, rain head-band and piercings shown for a split second where you can barely see his poorly animated eyes as being that same leader. But like I said i don't care and I'm done arguing this, say what you want.

Geez, you don't have to be all snippy about it. I wasn't even "arguing" in the first place. I was just discussing. :blink: At any rate, it's obvious who he is because his hair and eyes have been shown before to the anime audience in the last canon arc. The facial piercings and his unaltered voice too. Those who've seen the Hidan and Kakuzu Arc would know exactly who this guy is. Unless you imply that it's really that hard to put two and two together. |

I have to give the animators credit for adding material that actually enhanced the story beyond what was presented in the manga. The Orochimaru back story was so well put together that it should be retconned into canon. Orochimaru is as evil as they come, but the background on him almost makes you want to feel bad for him. Itachi is clearly shown to be stronger than Orochimaru, but I wonder why he didn't kill Orochimaru. If I had to guess, I would say that Itachi probably assumed that Orochimaru would go after Sasuke as a backup plan to obtaining the Sharingan. I've always found Itachi to be a fascinating character, and this episode reinforces that. I like how Itachi stops at the end of the episode as if he can sense that Sasuke absorbed Orochimaru. I also like how the episode had a dark vibe to it. The animation could have been smoother in some scenes, but the episode was solid enough to get a 9/10 in my book. |

all my friends are anime only watchers and all of them knows that the orange haired guy is the leader, why? cause you have to be dimwitted if you cant see that the hologram and the orange haired guy are the same guy, and everyone that has seen the kakuzu/hidan arc has seen part of his face, hairstyle/color and piercings. this was just the first full picture of him. this is like saying that you cant make out kisame, itachi or the other members when they are holograms. |

Then you've obviously missed episode 81, where the hologram leader's hand rises and becomes the red-haired one's hand, and FYI, the Japanese credits also identify them as the same individual. Even if we were to ignore the former confirmation, one would have to be pretty dumb not to make such an obvious connection to begin with. It doesn't matter if you're "done arguing" or not, at least have the decency to stop contradicting yourself by repeatedly posting after making that statement so that everyone else here can discuss the episode on-topic, please. If the two were confirmed to be the same person in the anime (and they were) then it isn't a spoiler, nor is referring to this person as the "Akatsuki leader" for my reason stated earlier in this thread. Period.
Weighted against the rules, your view doesn't mean squat. It's completely irrelevant. |

I don't think showing him mattered much since a lot of the people who watch the anime read the manga and also if you only watch the anime then that very brief flash isn't gonna ring any bells. You'd have to come to a place like this forum to truely get that spoiled or even remember the episode where they showed him over Ame. The primary reason for that flash was most likely to tease the general watchers into thinking who is this new member thus adding to the effect of him further down the line. He's still a mystery. |

This doesn't apply because we have seen those members before they were shown as holograms plus they address the respective holograms with their names which they don't with "that guy". The post above pretty much explains where I was coming from, unless you are a hardcore anime freak and remember every episode you aren't going to put that together. Did you miss the weighted against the rules part? I never said it was irrelevant to the forum as a whole, I explicitly said that it's irrelevant in comparison to the rules. In this case, your opinion really doesn't matter at all because we're never going to change the regulations to fit your views.
Nice try, I recall you specifically stating that it was a spoiler and I corrected you. It's not a spoiler, there's no way around that whatsoever. You're either missing the point or retconning your stance. I'd appreciate it if everyone can get back on-topic now, but I want to make it clear to everyone else that referring to this character as the "Akatsuki leader" is allowed and completely fine. |

I simply loved all of the flashbacks! The animators did a good job here. Seeing a very young version of the Third Hokage was very nice. That scene along with the ones with Dan and Nawaki really helped explain why Orochimaru decided to walk down the path that he did. The scene with the young Itachi was pretty cool because it gave us a look at when Orochimaru started to show interest in the Sharingan. The scene with the young Anko was also very entertaining. I couldn't help but smirk when she mentioned bringing people back from the dead. I agree that showing the face of a certain someone was rather anti-climatic. In my opinion they could have avoided this by just showing the holographic form we have grown accustomed to. This doesn't surprise me though. The animators really know how to kill a moment. For example I remember how Sasuke's appearance in part two was a big deal and as fans we were really anticipating it. Yet, in the first episode of Shippuden the animators ruin that anticipation by showing Sasuke in the opening and in the sneak peak. It did seem a bit foolish for Orochimaru to stare directly into Sasuke's eyes during the ritual. One would expect him to know better after what has happened to him when he tried taking Itachi's body. From what I could see though Orochimaru was overconfident and probably didn't think even the Sharingan could stop him from taking over Sasuke's body. Kabuto also displayed this overconfidence in this episode by saying that not even Sasuke could resist the ritual. I guess Sasuke proved them both wrong. The ending of this episode was pretty cool where they showed characters connected to both Sasuke and Orochimaru looking at the red sun. It was especially nice to get another appearance from Anko and her killing a white snake seemed very fitting. Overall I really enjoyed this episode. Since I enjoyed it so much I gave it a 10. |

9/10 this episode was good. It developed Orochimaru and made us remember that he was human and did at one point have a human side. Instead of his crazy sadistic attitude. For example, he was about to save itachi, and seemed upset when Dan died, and stopped tsunade from seeing her bro's corpse. Spoiler: click to toggle And since when can the sharingan, just take over a realm that a powerful guy built. I liked this episode. Orochimaru's past was really good and believable. The transformation into the psychopath was well done. I liked the sun at the end as well. Very powerful symbolism for such a great villain going down. It was good to see the third in his young days. And also who was there when Itachi entered Akatsuki. Or who was there before him. I didn't like how Sasuke looked in the beginning in his curse seal form. Though I like the transformation and the freakish wings, he was somewhat too brown and it didn't look greatly animated. Way too fake-ish. The dimension was sort of good. When Sasuke was taking over, it could have been somewhat more clear. Twas too dark for my liking. It had it's ups and downs, goods and bads. I think i'll give it a 10. |

the episode was done very well! it gave a perfect developement of how orochimaru turned out to be psycho and evil. i especially appreciated the particular flashback of orochimarus reaction to both of tsunades losses. i don't think the animaters couldve pointed out the fact how orochimaru was weakend also. loved every bit of the episode well done.
