They're not asking for knowledge about the series' content, they're asking for wisdom from someone who knows how to roleplay. Things such as god-moding, auto-killing, which tense to roleplay in, how to create character templates, come up with a storyline and remain adherent to it for the duration of the RP, and all that jazz. Just handing people jutsu doesn't get you very far. You sound like you want help with an online MMORPG designed for Naruto fans; if that's so, you're barking up the wrong tree. |

On another forum I was an RP king. I've hosted and joined into at least a hundred of them, if not more. If you need help with anything I can help you. I'll keep checking back into this topic, or you can PM me. |

I agree with Saraudkar about the quality's your supposed to be teaching in roleplay and I could help teach if you want. My friend is obsessed with roleplay and I have played some with him. He has taught me the basics on how to design a character template, how to make a story line and stay attached to it during RP, and alot of the other basics in roleplay. He even taught me how to design a roleplay world. I'll ask him some question and maybe I could help teach. |

Since Im not too great with plot lines(more of an action type RPer, with lots of epic battles and such... hidden twists to storylines, etc.)you can help in that area. Hrrm... maybe we could start a topic with tips about RPing, that everyone could use? It'd make it easier. |

Good luck with that; we actually had rules and whatnot here and because we actually expected a measure of effort from RPers, they balked at it all and we had to dissolve everything to a single rule (the pinned topic here). And by the way, this is basically a tips topic already, so starting another one would be redundant. |

Oh, I see. First time I read it I missed the last part. Might as well post some tips then... Basics: [1]---Try to be descriptive and use correct grammar/spelling as often as possible. Ryuzaki killed the guy. Is an example of an undescriptive and boring sentence. If you're going to RP, at least spend some time making it look good. Ryuzaki drew a kunai knife and rushed forwards, tossing two shurikan as he ran to cause a distraction. The opponent ninja dodged the shurikan, putting him off balance and very vulnerable to Ryuzaki's kunai, which buried itself in the ninja's heart. Is a very random example... But I think you get the point. :P [2]---Auto-killing, god-modding, etc. Let's say my character is Kakashi, and this other RPer's character is Naruto. Kakashi tossed the shurikan and followed up with a few quick handsigns, lastly forming Tiger. "Firestyle: Fireball Jutsu!" Naruto barely deflected the shurikan and was burned to death by the fireball. Not only is this very often against the rules, it also makes other people very angry, and they hate you for it. Occasionally somebody does this and simply describes the other character as being "gone," or "nothing but a pile of ash." This gives the other RPer a chance to do something else, and does not count as god-modding, auto-killing, etc. Or sometimes they use the last sentence of their post to put their own character in a dangerous positon, example. Kakashi sighed when he realized it was over, Naruto was dead. Just as he was turning around he heard a faint "woosh" noise, he ducked as Naruto flew over him, Rasengan in his hand. Two shadow clones rushed Kakashi's blind side, and pinned him down. Allowing Naruto a clear shot with Rasengan. [3]---Action scenarios. Most of the time in RPs, there comes a time when your character must fight either random enemies, or other RPers. When this happens, it's usually impossible to kill the other. Unless you god-mod or cheat hardcore. The safest way to deal with these battles is to either make relatively short action posts, which include a few shots, dodges, etc. Occasionally dealing a small blow to one another. Or, you can distract them with something and escape. Or, backup can arrive, forcing them to retreat. If your character is pitted against several random enemies, lets say... rogue ninja. You can't use one uber powerful move and destroy them all like they're nothing. They're ninja too, and can use techniques such as Substitution. Which in situations like this, it's best to escape. If you planned on your character dying, they can go out the hard way. Taking a few of their enemies down as well. These are the only tips I can think of right now. Someone else can explain the rest. Your first step could have been even more descriptive, which brings me to my point: do not be afraid of description. I'm not suggesting you pull a Dickens or Hawthorne* and write pages upon pages describing the table in the corner, but give us an image. A picture is worth a thousand words, right? Well, you have to paint us a picture. Put in a lot of words. This doesn't have to be exclusively the surroundings. There's only so much you can write about until people get annoyed. If you're in a desert or plain, for example, there isn't much to talk about. You should put in plenty of description about your character -- not just his appearance, but his feelings and thoughts. A lot goes through a person's mind in a second, so as that person is charging at you with a kunai, you can have a whole lot of thought going on. Don't make him or her an empty shell that just acts. Emotion is good. ...with that said, don't make every post melodramatic with a multitude of "WOE IS ME" moments (ha, alliteration). While we want description to have a nice, well-written RP, don't overdo it. If the previous poster spent a couple paragraphs talking about the scenery, don't do the same thing. Feel free to give some nods to the previous descriptions though; if I talked about how the trees were swaying in the breeze and went on about the scenery, slipping in comments about the trees waving or the breeze ruffling your hair give a nice sense of connectedness to the story. Since an RP contains many different writers and styles, linking each post together in small ways helps it flow without much struggle on the reader's part. Don't ignore the descriptions while battling either. If a storm is coming, keep in mind that heavy winds and rain will have a dramatic effect on a fight or mission. Even in battle you need description! Explain the reasoning behind the attacks, explain how the character prepares, and if you really want to be awesome, give us hand seals. If you made it through that mini-dissertation, I'll just leave it at this: RPs are stories, not all-out mindless brawls. This isn't Bleach. I write this in the hope that newcomers will read and take it to heart. =( *Please tell me my nod to two description-heavy authors wasn't lost on anyone. |

I forgot about that one... The book "The Sword of Shannarah" and that whole trilogy loses you quite a few times with it's pages upon pages of descriptions. Same with LoTR. So, good tip. ;D |

Guides are useless if nobody's actually roleplaying, hence the starting problem. Instead of trying to write up tips for people who aren't ever going to use them, why not start up an RP and help those who sign up? Maybe then, after you've not only began to help solve the original problem, but have also established a bit of credentials for yourself, you can start making guides. |

Ironically, Akibane already had an open RP tourney with no stated character restrictions. But that doesn't really matter, I suppose. |

Ok, I can help teach roleplaying. I am already giving tips to Uchiha Haku in the RP I made (Crisis RP). If you would like to join, I can help you through your posting and give tips on what to do and what not to do. I already posted some tips in the OOC thread, which is where all the non-story parts go pertaining to the Crisis RP (basically where we discuss the RP without actually posting in the RP, which results in taking up unnecessary space). |

One thing I've noticed: If you're going to be off the site for a while, let at least the RP master know about it; disappearing into the ether for a few months when you're in an active roleplay doesn't do anybody any favors. It's not going to kill you to take five minutes to log in and let people know what's up. Same goes for if you believe/know you're going to have a too-full schedule in coming times and have to totally withdrawal. |
