Small filler additions, which continue to work nicely. It's sad really how much better Studio Pierrot is handling this war arc versus how Toei dropped the ball so badly on the comparable war arc in the One Piece anime. Shippuuden is getting actual filler explanations to pad things outs, versus One Piece which got (and continues to get) constant stalling to draw things out.

This was one of my favorite episodes of this arc, amazing!! I agree with Shikamaru, really enjoyed the filler added to this episode. Zetsu vs Mizukage and CO was great with zetsu using a different technique. Also going back to all the other fights for a little bit like the seven swordsmen and vs division three and chiyo/kimimaro vs division five. I also like the new music that was incorporated with those fights at the end. The Kage's look badass just walking together in the desert like that. And of course can't forget the Gedo Mazo unleashing hell to the allied shinobi. This episode got me really excited for next week, to bad that episode is basically filler even though it's canon. This one get's a 10/10.

Good episode, I enjoyed the filler with Mizukage and Zetsu. It was about time we saw Zetsu do something else besides just talk. The small flash backs of the different battles was also nice. Nice of Kabuto to give everyone a little rest.

The Gedo statue sure looked like it could be unstoppable and Tobi, cocky as ever. I liked the little line he gave to Shikamaru, even Tobi recognizes Shikamaru's genius.

Overall a great episode.

Wow, that episode went by really fast!

This is the right way to insert fillers.

- I got a thing for that Gedo statue. Just devastating. I try to imagine seeing it for real.
- I liked the cute moments like Ten Ten and Tschuikage, that was nice.
- I lol'd at Raikage not being used to exiting via a door.
- The line Tobi threw to Shikamaru, I know I shouldn't say but I appreciated the nod by Tobi.
- The fast moving shots of foliage looked gorgeous.
Someone asked me recently why Naruto has different art studios and animations can vary,
to which I don't know but it looked like today was the better one? Anybody can fill me in why? money or time or..?

So, I'm happy. Cheers!

Mostly money, Pierrot is not giving Naruto the funds like it use too. Manga and Anime can easily be read and watched online for free. That hurts the Naruto Anime and Anime in general. So Pierrot sends episode to other companies sometimes because it is cheaper to have it done. The Naruto anime get's a lot of it's funds from Movies, Merchandise, video games etc. So if people want better high quality animation, go by naruto games, dvd's subscribe to accounts like crunchy roll, whatever. Anything that can help give the anime and the industry for that matter more money to work with. An episode of Naruto costs 100,000 USD. So when you have non stop Naruto all year costs millions of dollars a year. So if we want great animators like Suzuki, Wakabashi, Kouda, Yamashita and their caliber we have to keep supporting the industry. Luckily Road to Ninja has done very well so expect better quality animation later this year.

^kind of sad fact. i would love to watch Naruto on adult swim like i used too for part 1 when it was on toonami when i was a little kid. but the internet's ability to make anime available easily kind of ruins the whole point of it being on TV, since they can't make money.

On another note, i kind of regret reading the manga as i can tell if each part's filler or not.

Hey guys - thanks for the input. I didn't realize those streaming sites would cause that, and wow so expensive per episode.
I'm glad I use crunchyroll!

On that note: I have 54 guest passes currently for crunchyroll, way too many. If someone would like a few please PM me.

The artwork looked pretty awkward in places, but the animation team definitely did a stellar job this week otherwise. The colors and scenery were beautifully incorporated into the episode, the music placement was amazing and the fighting scenes were organized and coordinated extremely well. Definitely one of the better directed episodes of the arc, even if I was a little bummed out by some of the characters looking like they'd suddenly aged about 70 years during a few scenes.

Seeing the figurative big guy and his literal big guy summon step up to the plate and actually participate offered a devastating touch to the turning tide of the war. We continue to see various characters not named Naruto or Sasuke get their time to shine; Choujuuro goes all out alongside the Mizukage, Chouji goes toe-to-toe with Gedou Mazou, Shikamaru impresses Tobi and even often-abandoned characters like Ten Ten get yet another impressive showing. I've gotta say I'm really enjoying that impending sense of doom that seems to surround the shinobi alliance now that Kabuto has withdrawn his summons, but I also think it's a bit of a let-down considering it sort of halts the arc's progress. As fun as it was, I probably would've found the episode more enjoyable if the war's developments didn't come to a sudden stop light. It's certainly heading in a fine direction though.

Solid episode. I actually look forward to the upcoming fillers that are supposedly coming later this September.

Aesthetic Rating: 4/5
Story Rating: 4/5
Overall Score: 8/10

Where did you hear that? I know the next few will be canon, followed by at least one filler after that. If that's the case that would suck since day 2 is awesome!!

I wager there'll be at least two filler episodes. A few storyboards for 279 were leaked (check NF) and had Team 8 doing stuff against a White Zetsu that we've never seen from the manga, so it's at least partially filler. 280's title doesn't ring a bell for me and 281's title indicates it's almost certainly wholly filler.

Yea not sure what 279 would be, could be an added filler episode that has to do with the war, which I wouldn't mind.

Seeing Gedou Mazou wreak havoc on the battlefield was one of the many moments I was eagerly awaiting to see animated. Chouji and Chouza fighting against it like that made me feel as if I was watching a Japanese monster movie. Like a lot of fans I enjoyed the comment Tobi made about Shikamaru. Even though they are enemies Tobi was still able to recognize and acknowledge Shikamaru's brilliance.

I enjoyed the small bits of filler with Choujuurou, the Mizukage and co battling against Black Zetsu. The brief shots of Kakashi's division fighting the Seven Swordsmen of the Mist and Mifune's division dealing with Chiyo and Kimimaro were also very much welcomed. It was cool to see TenTen take out yet another one of Kakuzu's masks. Ino and TenTen have both been impressive during this war.

This episode was well done. I'll give it a 10.

I agree with everyone about how amazing these fillers are. Especially that cute Tenten one. xD

Although, it still tweaks me that half of the shinobi army died in only a day.
