Pretty weak episode, but I think everyone figured as much going into it. |

Man, it's a crying shame such a brilliant animation team and such superb music arrangements were used for an excruciatingly boring and pointless episode, because those were arguably perfect. Huge reliance on redundant, unnecessary flashbacks; the academy sparring scene existed solely for the purpose of conveying the same tired theme of Naruto and Sasuke's relationship and even its overall relevancy was so random and out of place (besides, didn't that already air not too long ago?). Not only does the plot fail to move forward, there's nothing to salvage from this episode aside from confirmation that Naruto finally plans to do his usual miraculous talk-no-jutsu on the Kyuubi sometime as well, which is something anyone could've predicted. The flashback of Naruto defeating the Kyuubi will probably confuse the hell out of some viewers who might erroneously assume it isn't a flashback - the transitioning for that was just terrible, terrible. Story-wise, there wasn't a single thing I liked even slightly and the plot was almost as much of a catastrophe as this week's manga chapter... Definitely the worst showing of the whole arc. I can't believe they just wasted quality production value for a week anyone can literally skip, and it's the only reason I'm not giving the episode a 4 or a 3. Aesthetic Rating: 5/5 Story Rating: 0/5 Overall Score: 5/10 |

About what I thought it would be. This was definitely one of my least favorite chapters of the arc in the manga. Good animation from Kouda, to bad it was wasted on this episode. |

most of this was already shown in a filler ep a while back, making this ep totally pointless. oh well, one more week! |

I for one am always happy when scenes with the Nine-Tails have good animation. Though I'm not sure I understand the process in animating episodes, why is the quality not always this high? Is it simple chance, or are animators on a rotation of who animates the episode? Could someone please explain? |

There is a some new info in the episode and the animation is nice, just feels like a filler. I would watch it anyways though.
Mostly money. Naruto and most anime for the matter don't get the funding they used to do to people watching anime and reading manga online for free. It costs 100,000 USD to make an episode of Naruto. So they have to raise money, by making movies, and getting them through merchandise, dvd sales, video games, anything that makes the industry money. If you want better quality episode make sure to support the industry. The good news is that Road to Ninja has been a huge success in the box office so look for better high quality episode later this year and early next year Edited by narutofan85, Aug 31 2012, 02:03 PM.

Both, really. All animators (including some of the best ones) are pretty much on constant rotation regardless of funding, which kind of necessitates chance/luck too because they're usually not given the choice of which episode they're tasked with. On occasion Pierrot will seemingly interfere with the rotation though, which is what they should've done here. This is one of the worst possible episodes in the entire series to expend good talent on. |

This is one of those episodes which you could forgo and not miss much. Some could even mistake this as a filler episode. It's a shame that it had excellent animation because it feels as if it was wasted. The flashback to the Ninja Academy days sent out the same tired old message that we have known for quite some time. I don't know about anyone else but I really dislike being fed the same message. I did like the conversation between the Kyuubi and Naruto. Like I said when I read this in the manga I thought the Kyuubi made some valid points. What Naruto did to the Kyuubi before getting right in his face made me think of a dog owner using a choke chain on their dog. Talk about laying down some obedience. Not exactly a great week for Naruto. Episode gets a 5. |
