Good episode overall, could have done without the whole Yashimaru flashback, but whatever. Really felt for Gaara at the end, now that he knows the truth. I also liked them playing the "final words" song they played during Minato and Kushina's death, great song. Would have liked a little more action with the the kazekage. I'll give this an 8/10, next episode should be awesome!! |

I see this episode stayed true to its Shippuuden roots- massive unnecessary flashbacks. Overall, I still liked it. It's just too much flashbacks. I'm glad to see that Gaara got the closure that he sorely needed. Carrying all that burden really tore into him. |

Very touching episode, we've seen some sappy stories that you just wanted to fast forward, but I have to say this one was a keeper. Glad to see there was closure between Gaara and his father. Would probably have liked to have seen a little more sand action. |

I wish that Chikara filler had never existed. There was so much potential in this episode, all wasted on flashbacks with poor animation. I mean, fillers are bad as they are, but when they start to meddle with the canon material like this, that's when I feel furiously livid. Or lividly furious. Or just pissed off. |

I don't see why everyone is complaining about the Yashamaru flashback. The whole point of that flashback was to show Gaara was loved after all... and that little medicine monologue he said at the end of the episode. Anyways to the episode, I don't mind the flashbacks but I don't like how they dragged them out and made this episode seemed slow. Even though I still have my disagreements with Gaara becoming instant Kazekage, I pleased that he surpassed his father. Edited by BHM1250, Jan 24 2013, 07:26 PM.

You said it yourself. The flashbacks were overly drawn out- a thought shared by many. I actually think that SOME flashback was appropriate and actually necessary to emphasize the rift between Gaara and his father. To me, the impact of this episode was blunted because I just wanted to fast forward the extended history. We've all already seen this. I simple reminder would've sufficed. I'm pretty sure most of us aren't suffering from dementia yet. |

that's it? i remember watching Gaara's past a long time ago. and his dad, a kazekage, only has one jutsu? a gold version of what Gaara does? and we still don't even know Gaara's dad's name. and there was only a few action scenes with Gaara's father but Gaara basically stopped him with the Sand Hail. overall good episode and i'd rather be watching this than that Chikara filler, but C'mon man! |

Gaara's fight with his father seemed to go by even quicker in the anime than it did in the manga. I always felt that Gaara's victory was way too easy. It would have been nice if the animation team added in some bits of filler to this fight so that it didn't look so one sided. To me it seemed as if some of this episode really dragged on. I could have gone without seeing the flashbacks to events that occurred during the Rescue Gaara arc. I understand that the flashbacks to Gaara's past were necessary to get a certain point across but seeing some the same events again didn't help matters. The new material at least made Yashamaru come out looking better and we did find out that Karura truly loved her son. Like the last episode this one also gets a 7. |

After years of supposedly being neglected by his own parents and uncle, Gaara finally faces daddy and discovers the truth. I wouldn't be telling the truth if I said it wasn't a little cliche, but I think it was definitely necessary in order to make way for one of the most emotional episodes in the war. I'd normally think the flashbacks would just bog the pacing down, but Gaara's conversation with his father wouldn't be nearly as impacting without them. The episode does have its problems though - these guys shouldn't be using techniques if they weren't actually going to engage in at least a small battle, and I was hoping Pierrot would expand on what little content the manga provided. It's unfathomably strange how the artwork remains good while the animation continues to be less than satisfactory. Aesthetic Rating: 3/5 Story Rating: 4/5 Overall Score: 7/10 |
